On Thursday morning, a fire at Tallman Towers damaged 8 apartments. Seven families are displaced from the damage caused by the fire. Everyone else should be in the building with the exception of those 7 families.
Many thanks to the Red Cross for their efficient response and providing warmth, temporary shelter and kindness to those displaced from their homes. We are so fortunate to have a great staff of volunteer fire fighters who were on the scene to limit damage and safely evacuate people from the building. Thank you to Tallman Towers staff who did everything they could to keep people safe and calm during this difficult time. And thanks to Village of Nyack Staff who spent the day working hard to help residents return to their homes in a safe and efficient way.
Orangetown Police quickly took control of the security and traffic issues and worked throughout the day with residents to explain the situation and support the efforts.
The staff at the YMCA were incredible bringing warmth, food and care to our residents.
The efforts of many unsung heroes who helped people get out of the building and provided support did not go unnoticed.
This was a true community effort. No one was injured but there are 7 families that are displaced tonight. We will continue to support them and stand with them.
